Welcome to ST MARY'S PRIORY, Abergavenny
For over one thousand years, we have served the people of Abergavenny and the surrounding area – after the model of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The website shows how we currently serve the community, and a little about our history. It is not intended as a replacement for actually visiting us, which we hope you will want to do after exploring our website. At the heart of our mission and witness is the worship of God. In fulfilling the commandments of Jesus Christ, we seek to be a Eucharist-centred community where people of all ages are able to participate fully in the Body of Christ. Whether you are visiting our site as a fellow Christian, an historian, or for commercial reasons, the people of St Mary's say welcome.
Whats on at St Mary's Priory
Due to the latest Coronavirus announcment for Wales the church site will be closed from Friday 23rd October- Monday 9th November.
we will revert to recording our Sunday Eucharist services which will then be broadcast on Facebook at 10.30 am. We will continue to send out pew leaflets and other news on a weekly basis.
We Apologise for any innconvience this may cause but our main priority on site is the safety of our volunteers, staff and visitors.
Holy Eucharist Services have now resumed at St Mary's Priory but are still limited to one service each Sunday. There is a limit of 30 places available for anyone wishing to attend and places can be booked by phoning 01873 858787. Please note we cannot accept email bookings. From Sunday 13th September, services will revert to our usual time of 11.00am.
If you are not on the Electoral Roll of any of our parishes, we would ask you to complete and return (can be on the day) the contact details form, along with our Covid-19 Privacy Notice, using the links below.
St Mary's Priory is still open for private prayer, for those who wish to pray and spend time in quiet before God, from 10am-2pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. A one-way system will be in operation and we are allowed to host up to six people at a time.
We are now able to offer visitors access to view the antiquities and historic tombs and a one-way system is in place. We are, regrettably, still unable to accommodate church members who normally access cupboards, vestries and other areas and we are still unable to provide access to toilets.
A contactless payment system is now available for donations in the church.
We are immensely grateful for your help in respecting these guidelines which are allowing us to open. We are also tremendously grateful to all who are enabling this to happen by stewarding and cleaning.
The Memorial Garden at St Mary’s will be open at the same times as the church to allow people to tend and visit graves.
We publish a list of events planned for the coming months, and will update the list of cancellations as they are decided. Find out more...
