Bishop Joins Priests and Deacons For A Monastic Day

14 Jun 2009

The Bishop of Monmouth, the Rt Rev'd Dominic Walker joined clergy at St Mary's Priory Church, in Abergavenny, for their June Monastic Day.

The monthly monastic days seek to seek to focus the entirety of a day on the great Monastic Rule of Benedict, attempting to focus the community life of the church - founded as a Benedictine priory in 1087 - on worship, celebration, meditation and work.

This includes the recitation and singing of the daily offices, starting at 8am and finishing at 8pm, the celebration of the Eucharist, time to eat together, a time of holy study,  and an afternoon dedicated to work.

This month's work included the clergy meeting people in the town, talking to them about church life and answering difficult questions such as 'how do you know there's a God?'
