Witness, Weddings and Worship – The Life and Work of St Mary’s

This year, to coincide with the Food Festival, on September 18 and 19, the church is planning a celebration of the life and work of St Mary’s. There are many strands to this, and the story will be told through photographs, exhibits and the provision of hospitality. They include:

An exhibition of wedding dresses and photographs of celebrations at St Mary’s over the last 70 years

Photographs of church activities – from major services to social events

Information on bell-ringing, our link with the Diocese of the Highveld, and All Age activities

A cake stall in front of the church – your chance to take home a delicious home-made cake

Top Lawn Teas—tea, coffee and scones on the Vicar’s top lawn

A display of Registers—trace your family’s weddings and christenings over the years

A display of our individually-decorated kneelers.

There will be stewards on hand throughout the weekend to give more information and help as required.

The Abbot’s Garden will be open for a moment of calm and contemplation in a busy weekend and a chance to see the sort of plants which would have been used by the monks of the Priory over 500 years ago.

Plus, in the Tithe Barn, enjoy a meal in the Taste of Wales restaurant, see the interactive exhibition of 1,000 years of Abergavenny’s history and the Abergavenny Tapestry. You can also see a select range of books on sale, plus Caldey chocolate and Holy Socks.
